Star of David
From April 1942, Jews in the Netherlands were ordered to wear a yellow Star of David on their outer clothing. Marked with the word JOOD, the Dutch word for Jew the badge was intended to identify, segregate and isolate Jewish people from the rest of society.
This is one of the stars worn by my mother.
Small and fragile, it is a reminder of how persecution became part of everyday life.
